What is a Blog?

A Blog (short for Weblog) is a web-based tool that helps you publish to the web instantly -- whenever the urge strikes you.

A blog page is made up of usually short, frequently updated, chronologically arranged posts - like a diary or a journal. They may be used for many purposes - from links and commentary about lifes events, to news about an organisation, person or idea, to diaries, photos, poetry, mini-essays, project updates, even fiction.

Blogs posts are like instant messages to the web.

A blogs may be one person's musings, or the collaborative effort of a team, based on a specific topic or area of mutual interest. Blogs are for play. for work, or for both.

Blogs are excellent communication tools. A small group can communicate through a blog in a simpler and easier way than with email or discussion forums. Use a private blog to allow team members to post related links, files, quotes, or commentary. Set up a family blog where relatives can share personal news. Church members can share a blog to help keep everyone in the loop, promote cohesiveness and group culture, and provide an informal "voice" of a project or mission to others.
