The Awakening West movement is based firmly on the understanding that there is only one church in a city, usually consisting of a number of congregations. Whether this means one church in melbourne (which we beleive is true) or one church in each smaller city which make up the City of Melbourne (Hobsons bay, Maribyrnong, etc.) does not matter. We all form one church.

There will be times when it is right to express our unity on a Melbourne wide, or even national or international, scale, such as was seen in the recent Marches for Jesus. However, the church is primarily called to reflect the Kingdom in its surrounding area, and Awakening West is committed to supporting such an expression. So, we serve the one church in Melbourne's West, and more directly the church in each of the Municipal Cities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.

Recognising that such initiatives are already happening in different places, rather than try to replace or compete with them, our desire is to come alongside and assist. Consequently, we would like to hear from any groups who have similar aims to those of Awakening West in your city, such as pastors prayer groups, parish councils, fellowships of churches, lay study groups, mission groups, intercession groups, healing groups, etc. who feel they might be able to come together to be the Awakening group in that city.

Apart from linking together people within a city who share a common mission, Awakening West will also encourage the Followers of Jesus to share in the initiatives of other cities. We can do this by advertising upcoming events and projects, listing resources that others may able to use, encouraging prayer, and sending people to participate.

To facilitate communication between churches, Awakening West is encouraging the development of interchurch newsletters. These will be supported by material on the Awakening West and city websites. and are intended to be inserted in a church's own newsletter. An example of one of these, for the City of Hobsons Bay, called Unity in Diversity, can be seen on the Awakening Hobsons Bay website.

Another of the effective ways Awakening West has chosen support the vision of One Church in the City is by the provision of a website through the Roaring-Mouse Project. To this end Awakening West will provide server space for a website in each city, and would welcome each city Awakening group to choose someone who is willing to take responsibility, along with the Webservant of Awakening West, for the development of that site. In this way a site can be produced which reflects the special needs of each city. If sites already exist which foster the development of unity and mission in a city they may also be linked into the Awakening West site for that city.
